from the Masterpiece collection colouring book, Frida Kahlo 1907-1954 ... her self-portrait was done in 1940..she was a victim of childhood polio ..and when she was 18 she was severely injured when hit by a bus which left permanent damage ....it is written that she wants the viewer to recognize her suffering. This is not a good photograph...not sure why the hat shows blue..as it is really purple...no matter how many times I tried to photograph it in different lights it still comes up blue?

I was born and raised in Huntsville, Ontario and moved to Ottawa as a young adult. Married for more than 50 years now; 3 sons, 3 daughter-in-laws, 6 grandsons and 4 granddaughters! As a young girl I remember receiving a paint-by-number for Christmas one year and spent almost every free moment working at it until it was completed...and of course that was on the top of the list the following year. It wasn't until some 5 decades later that I began taking some tole painting classes at night school. My real excitement for painting began the first time I tried to paint from a photo of our two grandsons ... I was so thrilled to see it actually looked like them (well, from behind...no faces involved)...I haven't really stopped working at it...
